I was a sophomore during the 1967 football season and covering IU’s cross country team for the Indiana Daily Student while following the exploits of Gonso, Isenbarger, Butcher, Gage, Cunningham, Sniadecki, etc. What some may not know is that the next season, amidst ’60s turmoil on the campus and in the nation, IU did reasonably well — just not Rose Bowl well. The 38-35 loss at Purdue in the season finale seemed devastating. After the game, I and others went to interview an emotional Pont. I’ll never forget that scene.
Thanks for the comment. From a purely football standpoint, you picked a great time to be at IU! I’ve heard bits and pieces about the 1968 team, but you’re right that it gets overshadowed by ’67.
